My Oura buying experience

I have had an Oura ring (silver Balance model) for 14 days. My purchasing experience was excellent.

I have seen a fair number of complaints online and in app reviews about orders that were never filled or took so long that the purchaser cancelled. Judging from the number of rings that have been sold, this probably represents a small percentage of experiences, so I decided to write about mine.

My experience took place in early 2019. I know that people who ordered in mid-2018 waited 3 to 6 months for their rings (depending on size, finish, model, manufacturing batch and country of purchaser) and I know that must have been very frustrating. It appears that the process timeline is much shorter in 2019, so don’t let old reviews discourage you.

The Oura web site was easy to use. The process was explained clearly in multiple places, as were projected shipping times for the sizing kit and the ring. At each step of the process I received a confirmation email within an hour or sometimes within a few minutes, despite the time differences to Finland. Each email, not only confirmed the last step in the process, but explained the remaining steps and gave time estimates for them.

The ring sizing kit shipped in 3 days and arrived in the US 2 days later. I updated my order with my ring size the same day and my ring shipped a week later. It arrived 4 days after that. So the whole process took less than three weeks. My emails consistently said that it would take 9 to 12 weeks, so I must have ordered a ring size and type that was frequently manufactured in large batches.

Unboxing!
The ring works just as described in the Oura promotional materials. It has synced with my iPhone and uploaded to the Cloud flawlessly. I leave it turned on (not in airplane mode) all day. It uses 5% to 7% of battery life per day and recharges in 10-15 minutes. It is providing useful data in an easy to use format. More useful than Apple Watch or Fitbit, which I used for years. I find that I like checking the activity data in the day time, enough that I am willing to accept a small EMF dose [https://help.ouraring.com/about-the-new-oura-ring/radio-frequency-electromagnetic-field-emf-and-bluetooth]. The dose is smaller than that of wristworn devices, which I have stopped wearing now; so, my overall dose has decreased.

I highly recommend the Oura Ring.
