This spring was not all illness and stress...

One of the high points was an unexpected gift of post-season play for the University of Arizona’s women’s basketball team. We attended game after game as they built to the finals and became the
2019 WNIT Champions! It was pretty
amazing. The team rose to the challenge. It was great to be there watching in a sold out arena. Watching them cut down the net after the game was truly a memorable moment.

We could not ride our bikes at
Cyclovia this year, but we did walk a portion at each end of the route. We rode the light rail in between. This stop at the university has my favorite
street sculpture - the head made of letters. In the middle, we ate at one of our favorite 4th Ave restaurants,
Boca Tacos. I highly recommend the beans and rice - like no other.

Southern Arizona has unique styles of Mexican
food including Southwest heat, Carne seca, Sonoran seafood, Chipilon, New Mexico verde, Baja California, and Sonoran hot dog. You may be served what looks like traditional red or green sauce on an enchilada or burro, but it won’t taste like anything you would get in Texas, New Mexico, or California. After 20 years we still love the traditional South Texas style we grew up with and can not get here, but we have come to appreciate the range of
tastes that exist in Baja Arizona. Boca’s is literally one-of-a-kind, but everything we have ever tried there was wonderful. The food definitely has a weird fusion, 4th Ave vibe, so typical of Tucson’s distinct style of living. Truck food is everywhere here and we have our favorite
spots. When we want something more traditional, we go to neighborhood shopping centers on the Northside.
Ole’s is the best by far. Speaking of Cyclovia, I read a great
article about
The Loop and the restaurants that are near it. Tucson is a world-class town for riding a bicycle, whether it is in a residential neighborhood, in a national forest, in a national park, to work, or for exercise. Bottom line: Tucson has great food that satisfies the imagination and the belly.
But the best of the best this spring was going to the Temple of Tiny Monkeys the day it
opened. The squirrel monkeys are the latest edition to the Reid Park Zoo. I can watch them for hours.
